Welcome to the 2008 Park Season!!

The Friends of Hueston Woods would like to welcome the following new members for 2008:
Fred Tepker and family
Welcome to the group!
IMPORTANT FIREWOOD ALERT! Ohio's Department of Natural Resources and Department of Agriculture are trying to stop
the spread of the Emerald Ash Borer which is an insect that kills ash trees. Because this pest is extensively found
in Michigan and in parts of Indiana, Illinois and Ohio, the movement of firewood from Michigan,Indiana and Illinois into Ohio
and out of Ohio has been banned. You may access a map of quarantine zones in Ohio (.pdf format) here.
Please be very aware
of this notice since a large percentage--estimated 70% or more--of the trees at Hueston Woods State Park
are Ash Trees. Campfire wood is available at the Camp Store and other private suppliers within a couple miles of
the park for a comparable price.
You can also check out additional information
on the Emerald Ash Borer on the OSU Ash Alert site and according to ohioagriculture.gov/eab Firewood Alert violators face a fine of up to $4000 for moving firewood out of Ohio's quarantined areas which include in the Butler/Preble county surrounding
area, Hamilton (5/23/07), Warren (2/9/07), Mercer (11/8/06), Logan (11/8/06), Auglaize (12/13/06), Miami (8/10/06), Butler
and Montgomery (both 9/3/07) counties.
We want to keep Hueston Woods State Park looking beautiful
and our trees where they are!!!

The Friends of Hueston Woods assists Hueston Woods State Park with entertaining events throughout the busy
season, usually running from May to November. We show movies in the campground's Center Circle every Saturday night
(weather permitting), assist with holiday entertainment, and our biggest event, the Hueston Woods Haunted Trail and Halloween
Weekend. We're very proud of the fact it is one of the biggest attractions in the Ohio State Parks. Our main
goal of the movies, holiday events and the Haunted Trail is to provide fun family entertainment at a low to no cost.
Monies earned at all events are put back into other events and the park--100%.
